Since its creation in 1994, the IRCAD has gained world-renowned fame as a leading research and education Institute. The global success of the institute has led to the inception of mirror centres around the world with the same structure as the Strasbourg Institute.

To enable surgeons from around the world to gain the best education in minimally invasive surgery under the guidance of an international expert team.

Strasbourg - France
In 1994, Professor Jacques Marescaux and his teams founded the original institute, which has become a global benchmark for education, training and research in minimally invasive surgery. It served as the prototype for the establishment of similar institutes across continents.
Barreto - Brazil
In 2011, IRCAD America Latina was inaugurated, featuring its first mirror institute in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. This establishment epitomizes a successful partnership with Henrique Prata and Barretos Cancer Hospital.
Beirut - Lebanon
In 2019, the inception of this new institute resulted from partnership between IRCAD and the French Hospital of the Levant. IRCAD Lebanon actively streams live operations conducted during the educational courses hosted at IRCAD France.
Indore - India
In November 2023, Prof. Jacques Marescaux journeyed to Indore, India, for the official signing ceremony establishing IRCAD India in collaboration with Sri Aurobindo University-SAU, founded by Dr. Vinod Bandhari.
Lukang - Taiwan, China
In 2008, under the leadership of President Min-Ho Huang Taiwan was the first Institute to open overseas. It is the largest advanced laparoscopy training center for the Asia-Pacific region, with a building of 5,000 square meters.
Rio de Janeiro - Brazil
In 2017, a second mirror institute was inaugurated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, through a collaboration with United Health and itts former CEO, Edson Bueno. This new IRCAD serves as an extension of the institute established six years prior in the State of Sao Paulo.
Kigali - Rwanda
Rwanda was selected as the location for IRCAD Africa with the aim pf establishing the largest center for training and research in Africa, promoting education in minimally invasive surgery, research, and technology transfer across the continent.
Charlotte (NC) - United States
In October 2021, IRCAD North America agreement finalized. In January 2023, construction began on the "The Pearl", Charlotte's new innovation district housing the mirror institute. Anticipated opening in 2025 signifies IRCAD's global expansion in medicine and surgery.
